The Last Supper - Leonardo Da Vinci

One of the must-sees in Milano is the refectory of the Convent of Santa Maria delle Grazie, next to the church by the same name designed by Bramante, which houses one of the most famous paintings in the world: The Last Supper by Leonardo da Vinci.

This work of art, painted between 1494 and 1498 when Milano was under the rule of Ludovico the Moor,  was executed by using a sort of tempera-on-stone technique, instead of traditional fresco painting.

Owing to the extraordinary value of the two buildings- church and convent- the symbol of Milano’s grandeur during the Renaissance age, the complex has been inscribed on the World Heritage Site list by UNESCO in 1980.
