Saronno is probably best known for it's almond liqueur DiSaronno Original, which used to be called Amaretto di Saronno,  for it's Amaretti biscuits, and above all for its strategic location, close to Milan, Como and the amazing Italian Lakes.

Museum of Industry and Work in Saronno
The Museum contains several objects relating to the industrial history of the town of Saronno, which have been accurately restored and displayed in a building initially planned for the Ferrovie [Railways] Nord Milano. The Museum is divided into four areas: an open-air exhibition area dedicated to the railways, where you can find large objects of Ferrovie Nord Milano, and the Liberty iron platform-roof of the local train station; the "Memory Hall", with findings and documents coming from the records of historical local companies, and old time photos; the "Innovation Hall", which includes multimedia presentations; and a main Hall, a typical industrial room of the past, with many objects related to the area’s historically most important industries. Among which a Cemsa/Caproni car of 1947, an Intetype printing machine of Grafica Luigi Monti, an Isotta Fraschini car of 1947, Monterosa model, the first machines used by Lazzaroni (the first in Italy to produce wafer biscuits and Amaretti), and the first Italian TV sets produced by Fimi/Phonola.

Collection of Ceramics and Majolicas
Giuseppe Gianetti, an entrepreneur from Saronno, first created this extraordinary collection in the 1930s and 1940s, thanks to his incredible sensitivity and relentless and competent search in the most important European cities. The collection includes more than 700 items dating back to the 18th-19th century. The Museum also displays Eastern china and Meissen’s porcelains (Saxony), the majolicas of Milan by Felice Clerici and his artists, and a group of rococo porcelains from Venice depicting the characters of the “commedia dell'arte”.

The Canonical House - Zerbi
The Canonical House - Zerbi was built in the year 1708 and is situated in the Via Marconi street, with a lateral entrance from Via Cesati.
In the thirties it was acquired by Gaetano Gianetti who, left it to his wife Maria in inheritance.
Restructured in the seventies, the building currently houses the subcommittee of the C.R.I., (Italian Red Cross) the Elderly Association, a Doctor's surgery, the AIDO, the AVIS and other groups and associations of the City of Saronno. Moreover it also houses the Saronno Museum of ceramics.

The Monument to Giuseppe Garibaldi
The Monument to Giuseppe Garibaldi represents a bronze semirelief of Giuseppe Garibaldi and was made by the Milan sculptor Metello Motelli, placed on the facade of the house of the Zerbi ownership.
The inauguration of the monument occurred on 14 October 1883, while the unveiling of the commemorative plate dedicated to the Hero of the two worlds took place the 7th July 1907 in occasion of the first Centennial anniversary of Garibaldi's birth.

The Gianetti Villa
The Gianetti Villa was built between 1919 and 1920 by the Gianetti family according to plans by the Milan architect Domenico Verga.
The house belongs to splendid Lombardic Rinascimento style and conserves splendid graffiti, decorations and tapestries of some artistic value; also a collonade and a patio.
At the enrance there is a reproduction of the Madonna of the Lippi painted by the Lombardic painters Bonatti and Chiesa. The Villa was donated from the Gianetti Family to the Municipality of Saronno in year 1923 to be destined as a Municipal House.


The Visconti palace
The Visconti palace of 15th Century origin, after several ownerships passed to Giuseppe Morandi, who in mid 1800's made it into a college.
Towards the end of that century the local municipality became the new owner and located the Town hall inside the palace. From 1985 the Visconti Palace awaits renewal. The structure is embellished by some granite columns by Baveno and some ceilings of the Palace are embellished by beautiful frescoes attributed to the painter Giovanni Antonio Cucchi.

The Sanctuary of the Blessed Virgin of the Miracles
On the 8th of May of 1498, the first stone for the construction of the Sanctuary was placed and was dedicated to the Blessed Virgin of the Miracles.
This was exactly one year after the apparition of the Madonna to Pedretto Morandi who at the time was ill and immobilized in bed. One night he heard for three times repeated these words: "Pedretto, if you want to recover, go to the Varesina road, and build a temple where the simulacro of the Madonna is, the means for building it will not lack ...".
Pedretto recovered and disclosed everywhere the news of the occurred miracle. And punctually the funds for the construction did not lack to build the Sanctuary that is amongst the most beautiful jewels of Italy.

The church of S. Francis
The church of S. Francis - also called the parochial Church of St. Peter, was rebuilt in 1297 with the annexed convent. The foundation of this church is attributed to S. Antonio from Padova.
It is constituted from three main arches, one central with wooden ceiling, and wider than the other two on either side. In 1931 it became part of the Italian national monuments. In it's twelve chapels, head, in the apse and the sacrestia, are conserved paintings of value.
On the outside of the Church there is a Roman plough (I-II cent b.c) with the epigrafe: "Quintus Cassius Mercator Deis Deabus".
 
The Prepositurale church of St. Peter and St. Paul
The Prepositurale church of St. Peter and St. Paul was erected in the year 1783 after the demolition of the older S. Maria and was ordained by the prepositura in 1726.
Inside is the Holy Crucifix which before was situated in the demolished Church of S. Cristopher, worshiped by the saronnesi on the day of the Festivity of Saronno (or the Transport Holiday), on each fourth Sunday of October and carried in a procession during the afternoon through th streets of the city. In front of the altar of the Holy Crucifix there is the altar of the Immaculate one, with the statue of the Madonna from the Church of S. Francis (1700). In the small porticato there is a fresco of the saronnese painter Francisco De Rocchi of S. Cristopher (early 1900's). The Prepositurale has been widened in 1904.
